With the release of CRM 4.0, Microsoft has done away with the familiar yellow-product key sticker.  So where do you find your license key?

As Microsoft Partners, we received a 3" x 6" slip of paper haphazardly stuffed into our monthly Partner Resource Kit (it's a glamorous life we lead here).  For a month, I've been telling customers that their keys will be on a yellow sticker on the back of the CD kit. 

But apparently when Mr Gates retired (by the way, if you haven't seen his farewell video, it's pretty entertaining), he stuffed all the blank yellow stickers in his cardboard box - because there were no stickers on the shipments our customers have been receiving.   With some input from my new best friend, James Bishop, the mystery has been revealed.

When you receive you Volume License CD media pack, the license key will be found on the CRM Server CD. Look for a file called license.txt in the two folders below:

• \Server\amd64
• \Server\i386

Use the appropriate one for your installation, and please do make a backup copy or seven in case you ever need it again.
